Health and Wellbeing Service

Our Health and Wellbeing Service works with people who are experiencing stress, anxiety and low mood, or who are living with a long-term physical health condition.

Living with a long-term condition can be challenging. Many people with long-term conditions or persistent physical symptoms like chronic pain or fatigue can experience times when they feel worried, stressed or down.

Feeling like this can change how you think and feel about yourself and impact on what you do in your daily life. These feelings can also make it harder for you to feel in control of, and manage, your long-term condition the way you want to.

Our Health and Wellbeing Service works with people who are experiencing stress, anxiety and low mood and who are living with any of the long-term conditions listed in the section below.

We have developed courses that are dedicated to looking at how you are feeling in the context of living with a long-term condition. The courses do not provide medical treatment for your physical health, but we will discuss how your physical health impacts on your wellbeing and vice versa.

If you’re unsure what is right for you, we can offer a telephone appointment where we can look at the different options available to you as our service also offers one to one support.

You can also access a range of self-help resources, such as guides and audiobooks, if you would prefer to try things on your own first.

If you are concerned about any aspect of your health, particularly your medical treatment or changes to your symptoms we would advise you to see your GP or other healthcare professional for advice.

We can offer you support with any stress, worry or anxiety you are feeling that are linked to any of the conditions listed below.

Living with persistent pain (also known as chronic pain) can be really difficult to cope with.

It can have a significant impact in many areas of your life, restricting what you can do and causing stress, worry and depression.

There are lots of different health problems that come under the umbrella of musculoskeletal conditions, including things like:

  • Joint pain (for example arthritis, gout and ankylosing spondylitis)
  • Bones (such as osteoporosis and fractures)
  • Muscles (such as sarcopenia)
  • Spinal pain (for example lower back or neck pain)
  • Inflammatory diseases (such as connective tissue diseases like lupus)
  • Chronic pain (for example fibromyalgia)

Feeling exhausted or tired constantly can be really draining and could have a huge impact on your daily life.

Not being able to do the things you want to can leave you feeling irritable, frustrated and down, and that’s completely understandable.

Whether you have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or not, we can support you to break the cycle, improve your mood and better manage your symptoms.

Living with diabetes can be really challenging. There’s so much to think about with self-management of your diabetes.

It’s understandable that you might feel worried, stressed or down at times.

We can support you to improve your wellbeing whether you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

We all might worry about our health from time to time, but sometimes those worries can take over and can dominate our thinking, change the way we behave and stop us enjoying life.

Having a heart or cardiac condition can understandably create a lot of worry and uncertainty.

The impact it has on your day-to-day life can be a source of real stress and impact on your wellbeing.

We can support you if you have one of the following heart conditions:

  • Angina
  • Arrhythmia
  • Atrial Fibrillation
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Coronary Heart Disease
  • Heart failure
  • Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that affects the digestive system.

IBS can be very frustrating to live with and understandably can have a big impact on your confidence and daily routine.

The Coronavirus pandemic has been difficult for all of us, but especially for those who had the virus and are still suffering the effects of what is called ‘Long COVID’.

Long COVID can be associated with a range of symptoms, including on-going problems with breathlessness and fatigue.

Experiencing these symptoms can have a massive impact on our day-to-day activities and bring lots of uncertainty. It understandably can contribute to us feeling worried, stressed, anxious or down.

Any condition that impacts on your ability to breathe, such as asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) can be challenging to cope with.

It is understandable to be worried or stressed about managing these conditions.

Living with a skin condition can be challenging. These conditions can have an impact on our self-confidence and make us feel worried about our appearance.

This can be made extra difficult by the stress and anxiety can make your skin condition worse.

We can support you if you are struggling with any type of skin or dermatological condition such as:

  • Acne
  • Alopecia
  • Eczema
  • Rosacea
  • Psoriasis
  • Urticaria
  • Vitiligo

Going through treatment for cancer is a worrying and stressful time in your life.

There are many different types of cancer, far too many to list in this section, but we offer support to anyone who has successfully been treated for cancer, but are still struggling with feelings of uncertainty, anxiety or low mood.

You may find one of the following courses helpful:

Tinnitus is the name for hearing sounds that are not coming from the outside world. Common symptoms may be described as experiencing sounds like: ringing, hissing, whooshing, humming, buzzing, and for some people songs or music. You may hear these sounds in one or both ears or in your head. These sounds may come and go or you might hear them all the time.

Tinnitus is very common and not usually a sign of anything serious. However, if these symptoms are new to you please see your GP in the first instance.

Tinnitus can have a significant impact on your wellbeing causing stress, worry, anxiety, and/or low mood.
